Survey Instrument Operator (Charleston Office)

Hussey Gay Bell is currently accepting applications for a Survey Instrument Operator. The successful candidate will work with a team of professionals to complete a wide variety of survey projects in South Carolina and North Carolina. Projects may include boundary surveys, topographic surveys, wetland surveys, route surveys, construction layout and other types of surveys as clients require. This position will be filled by a results-oriented individual that is self-motivated, with a proven track record of relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Intern Architect/CAD Tech (Atlanta Office)

Hussey Gay Bell is seeking an Architectural CAD Technician with 3-5 years of CAD experience in construction document production to join its Atlanta-based, Duluth office team. Skills desired include AutoCAD drafting, detailing, REVIT 3-D modeling and production of all aspects of construction documents. Structural Engineer (Savannah Office)

Immediate opening for a Structural Engineer with a minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience in structural projects utilizing AutoCAD, RAM and/or other software. Candidate must be a committed team player and will be part of a design team geared toward architectural, civil, municipal and industrial projects. Experience with steel design required and wood, masonry and concrete preferred. Responsibilities will include design of various structures and production of contract documents (plans and specifications) for various types of buildings; water treatment facilities; sewer and drainage structures; docks and marine structures; retaining structures; bridges; foundations; steel platforms; utility supports. Review of shop drawings, resolution of construction issues, preparing proposals, budgeting, site observations, project coordination and structural inspections are included in responsibilities. Excellent communication skills are required. Professional Engineer registration in Georgia is required. Experience in REVIT Structure software is highly preferred. Experience in Microstation is a plus.

This position requires construction observation of Water and Sewer Piping, Pump Stations, Grading, Paving and Storm Drainage projects. We are seeking a candidate who is self-motivated with good time management skills, good work ethics, good verbal communication and writing skills. The ideal candidate will have worked for a contractor specializing in the construction of water, sewer and storm drainage systems, site grading, and paving work. Candidate must be able to inspect ongoing construction projects for quality, accuracy per contract documents and approved standards. Review of contract documents for constructability and cost evaluations is also a job requirement. Experience in coastal area construction is a plus.

Executive Assistant (Savannah Office)

The Executive Assistant will work closely with the CEO.  The Executive Assistant to the CEO will draft documents on behalf of the Executive office, as well as assist in editing organizational documents that require Executive approval.  This position may require traveling with the CEO. Responsibilities may include making travel and meeting arrangements, preparing reports and financial data and client relations. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Professionally interface, assist and represent the CEO both internally and externally.
  • Draft Executive correspondence as needed to include emails, thank-you letters and general correspondence.
  • Assist with editing internal organizational documents that require approval by the CEO to include coordinating edits with officers, department heads and other senior staff.
  • Manage the CEO’s email inbox and email folders.
  • Maintain knowledge of and management of CEO’s calendar.
  • Manage the CEO’s contacts to include entering business cards and pertinent information into the contact management system.
  • Work with the CEO to determine which key persons the CEO should contact regularly and on what schedule.
  • Travel with the CEO, as needed, to include staffing at events and meetings and assisting with logistics that may include running personal errands.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with the senior staff of the organization.
  • Manage and submit CEO’s monthly company expenses, if applicable or desired.
  • Manage and coordinate any and all technical issues including problems or questions regarding the CEO’s iPhone, iPad, and other technology devices with internal Hussey Gay Bell IT staff.
  • Assist Hussey Gay Bell IT staff with downloading software, media, photos, videos and other data/information necessary for calls and meetings.
  • Run errands such as picking up beverages and/or meals, when necessary and as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills/Experience:

Civil/Site Engineer (Savannah Office)

Hussey Gay Bell is currently seeking a Civil/Site Engineer to work in the Civil Site Design Department in Savannah. Candidate will be expected to interact with clients and successfully prepare site development construction drawings, engineering design considerations for water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructure, and permit applications associated with residential, commercial, and/ or industrial projects.  Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software is preferred.

Engineer will be responsible for development of preliminary design reports, engineering calculations, technical reports, permitting, construction drawings and project specifications.  The engineer is expected to perform work within assigned budget, schedule and quality requirements and be able to successful manage a project from concept through construction.  At minimum, successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, 4-5 years of related experience and hold a Georgia Professional Engineering license.  Ideal candidate will have excellent communications skills and established contacts in the local development and municipal markets.

CAD Technician (Savannah Office)

Hussey Gay Bell currently has an opening for a Water/Wastewater CAD Technician in our Savannah, GA office.  The main responsibility of the CAD Technician is to create designs under the direction from a Project Engineer or Project Manager for various municipal design projects.  This position will require familiarity with plant piping systems with a grasp of spatial relationships of plant elements.  The successful candidate should:  have an understanding of municipal utility systems and fundamental requirements for water, sewer and storm drainage utility layout and design; have a basic understanding of Architectural and Structural drawing terminology and drawing presentation; and be skilled in the knowledge of construction drawing preparation and presentation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or technical school degree.
  • Must be proficient in ACAD 13 3D and Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of ArcView and ArcMap very helpful and preferred.
  • Prior experience in municipal water and sewer CAD-related projects preferred.

Transportation Engineer (Columbia Office)

Hussey Gay Bell is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Transportation/Highway Engineer with minimum eight (8) years of experience for full-time employment.  Successful candidates will design and manage certain aspects of transportation projects for state and local governments, including the development of construction plans, cost estimates, bid documents, various calculations, and quantity takeoffs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the design and creation of construction documents on a wide variety of transportation projects.
  • Different roadway design components including typical sections, earthwork, geometric layouts, drainage and hydraulic analysis, erosion control plans, signing and marking plan, safety features and maintenance of traffic plans.

Assignments will also involve tasks associated with producing a set of construction documents including design, drafting, quantity computations, specifications, and cost estimates.

Candidate shall, at minimum, possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited curriculum.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of professional work experience with an emphasis in highway/ transportation design projects, including complete preparation of ROW and final construction plans.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer is required.  Ability to obtain licensure in SC within 6 months, if not currently registered.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, and MUTCD publications, specifications and standards, and SCDOT design standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of roadway design programs, MicroStation V8i and GEOPAK Road and Drainage.
  • Effective planning, scheduling and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Candidates will be expected to complete work with minimal oversight.  Occasional travel will be required in completing site visits, conducting plan review meetings, and attending public meetings.

Senior Hydraulic Engineer (Savannah Office)

Hussey Gay Bell is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Hydraulic/Drainage Engineer with ten (10) years of experience for full-time employment.  Successful candidates will design and manage certain aspects of transportation and drainage improvement projects for state and local governments, including the development of construction plans, cost estimates, bid documents, various calculations, and quantity takeoffs.

Candidate shall, at minimum, possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited curriculum.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of professional work experience with an emphasis in hydraulic studies, analysis and design.
  • A professional engineering license in the State of Georgia  and/or South Carolina.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of drainage and roadway drainage design programs, especially XPSWMM or similar dynamic modeling software, HEC-RAS, Geopak and/or Inroads.
  • Demonstrable expertise with either AutoCAD/Civil 3D or MicroStation V8i.
  • Effective planning, scheduling and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Tasks will primarily include the following items:

  • Performing civil engineering design and project management with emphasis on drainage for state and county highway and drainage improvement projects.
  • Performing hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and reports including flood risk reduction studies, hydraulic modeling and calculations, floodplain studies, implementation of drainage systems, and specifications.
  • Performing complete hydrologic/hydraulic design of roadway drainage systems, bridge hydraulic analysis, and erosion control design and other ancillary plans.
  • Design, analysis and plan preparation for roadway and site development drainage and stormwater management systems to meet state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Supervising technical staff assisting with project completion.
