Hussey Gay Bell has an immediate opening in our Savannah office for a Water/Wastewater Project Manager with a minimum of 6 years of related experience.  Candidate should have previous design experience with water distribution systems, wastewater collection, pump station and force mains.  Experience with planning, permitting, design and construction of municipal water and wastewater pipelines is a plus.  Candidate should be able to create design drawings in AutoCAD and be familiar with modeling software such as WaterCAD.   Candidate should be able to manage project from concept through design, bidding and construction phase services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Project coordination with the Owner and other disciplines necessary to produce the project.
  • Design of the water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Identify and apply for all necessary regulatory permits.
  • Prepare all necessary calculations.
  • Develop concept reports and project models.
  • Produce project plans and specifications.
  • Manage project schedule to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
  • Oversee project bidding and construction administration phases.
  • Assist with the resolution of construction issues and conduct site observations.
  • Independently performs most assignments; self starter.
  • Ability to assert yourself as a team leader.
  • Capable of interfacing effectively with clients, staff and regulatory agencies.

Candidate shall, as a minimum, possess:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • PE license.
  • Previous experience as a project engineer in civil and/or municipal type projects.
  • Effective planning, scheduling and organizational skills.

Successful applicant will manage complex multi-discipline design delivery projects for public sector clients (i.e. state and county Departments of Transportation, US Army Corps of Engineers, University System of Georgia Board of Regents, county and city Departments of Public Works, state Ports Authorities). Responsibilities will include contract preparation (development of scope, fee and schedule, negotiation with client), assembling and directing project team comprised of internal resources and outside subconsultants, providing regular reports of project status to internal Principal-In-Charge and client project representative, and compliance with all contract requirements (including design budget).

Successful applicant will have earned an ABET-accredited four-year degree in engineering and Professional Engineer license in the State of Georgia (at minimum) and have at least ten years of progressive experience in civil engineering design, project management and client maintenance. Preference will be given to those applicants with experience as a consultant on large-scale public works or capital improvement projects in Georgia and/or South Carolina.

The primary responsibility of the Hussey Gay Bell Department Manager for the Survey Department is to lead and manage the Survey Department in the execution of boundary, topographic, and ALTA surveys. The Manager will be responsible for the management of 10+ employees consisting of field and office personnel. In addition to the management of staff and functions of daily business, the manager will also be responsible for the planning, scheduling, and to a limited extent, the procurement of work for the Survey Department. The Survey Department Manager will coordinate with other departments in the company, with field crews, and office personnel to deliver the services as required. All responsibility of crew activities, office processing and technical support will be solely with the Department Manager. The Survey Department Manager will be responsible for providing work efforts and cost proposals for work to be done by other departments within the company and for standalone survey work. Much of the work will be assigned to the Survey Department Manager, but the procurement and development of standalone survey work is promoted.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all Survey and GIS-related work within the firm.
  • Prepare scope of services, detailed project budget and contracts for all survey/GIS related projects or in support of other departments within the firm.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and performance of all projects and employees under direct supervision.
  • Perform survey computations, boundary analysis and resolution.
  • Provide property and project research.
  • Coordinate directly with other departments in the firm and with clients.
  • Enhance current client base and develop new market targets.
  • Act as Project Manager for all Survey and GIS-related work.
  • Provide developmental mentoring for staff to grow in their respective careers.
  • Be responsible for the interviewing, recruitment, hiring, and termination of survey staff.
  • Conduct kick-off and interim project status meetings with the project team to discuss tasks, schedules, budgets, etc.
  • Managing scope of services to ensure original services are being adhered to with the expansion of scope.
  • Serving as primary contact for selected projects.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered Land Surveyor in the State of Georgia.
  • Minimum of 12 years experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and staff management.
  • Working knowledge AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of GPS/RTK technology.
  • Broad knowledge of survey methods, equipment (including GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Conventional Total Stations, and Digital Levels) and techniques.
  • Experience performing survey calculations, data research, field work, and boundary resolution.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills.
  • Management of multiple, simultaneous projects.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered Land Surveyor in the State of South Carolina (or be able to become registered).
  • Surveying-related degree.
  • Working knowledge of Microstation.
  • Working knowledge of Arc GIS or other GIS software.
  • Experience in client development.
  • Experience working on GDOT and DoD projects.
  • Working knowledge of post processing and downloading survey data from data collectors.

Hussey Gay Bell is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Transportation/Traffic Engineer with minimum three (3) years of experience for full-time employment.  Successful candidates will design and manage certain aspects of transportation/traffic projects for state and local governments, including the ongoing support of our land development group in the preparation of traffic signal plans, traffic studies, safety analyses and signal warrant studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of traffic signal plans for state, local and private entities. Experience developing signal plans following Georgia DOT guidelines is a plus.
  • Assisting in the design and creation of construction documents on a wide variety of transportation projects.
  • Collection, organization, research & analysis of traffic data, round-a-bout studies, signing and marking plans, safety analyses and developing solutions.
  • Assignments will also involve tasks associated with assisting in the production of construction documents including design, drafting, quantity computations, specifications, and cost estimates.

Candidate shall, at minimum, possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited curriculum.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in traffic or transportation engineering (this experience to include but not limited to traffic studies, signal warrant analyses and traffic signal design).
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer/Professional Traffic Operations Engineer is preferred or Engineer-In-Training license with the ability to obtain professional licensure in GA within 2 years, if not currently registered.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, and MUTCD publications, specifications and standards, and GDOT design standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of traffic engineering and CAD software. HCS, Synchro, CORSIM and MicroStation V8i is preferred. Inroads software experience is a plus.
  • Effective planning, scheduling and organizational skills.

Hussey Gay Bell’s Savannah structural department has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer with a minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated experience in structural design utilizing AutoCAD, RAM, Revit and/or other software.  Candidate must be a committed team player and will be part of a design team geared towards architectural, civil, municipal and industrial projects.  Experience with steel design required and experience with design of concrete, masonry and wood is preferred.

Candidate shall, at a minimum, possess:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in Georgia preferred.

Hussey Gay Bell is accepting applications for a Senior Transportation Engineer to join its Savannah transportation design group.  Candidates must have 6-10 years of transportation systems design and construction administration experience and a minimum of 3 years of managing other engineers and technical support staff.  A strong technical background with comparable leadership, communications and business development skills is a fundamental requirement. Successful candidate will design and manage certain aspects of transportation projects for state and local governments, including the development of construction plans, cost estimates, bid documents, various calculations, and quantity takeoffs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the design and creation of construction documents on a wide variety of transportation projects.
  • Different roadway design components including typical sections, earthwork, geometric layouts, drainage and hydraulic analysis, erosion control plans, signing and marking plan, safety features and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Assignments will also involve tasks associated with producing a set of construction documents including design, drafting, quantity computations, specifications, and cost estimates.

Candidate shall, at minimum, possess:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in GA
  • A minimum of 6 years of professional work experience with an emphasis in highway/ transportation design projects, including complete preparation of ROW and final construction plans; experience with GDOT and SCDOT preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience in use of roadway design programs, MicroStation V8i and GEOPAK Road and Drainage.

Hussey Gay Bell is currently seeking an enthusiastic Land Development Civil Engineer with a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in residential land development and permitting.  General duties include design, construction document production and full permitting of land development projects of various size and complexity. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, independent design, construction document production in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office suite, calculations and permitting for roads, parking lots, stormwater management, erosion control and site utilities on land development projects ranging from small commercial out-parcels, industrial projects and primarily single and multi-family residential. The ability to provide land development design, including detailed grading, in an independent setting as well as a team environment depending on project complexity is crucial. Depending on level of project complexity candidate is expected to execute and manage projects from concept through final permitting.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with multi-office design team, clients and government agencies both verbally and in writing are essential.  Candidate must project a professional, positive attitude and have 3+ years of demonstrated progressive experience specifically in land development.  A demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD 2012 Civil 3D or later and stormwater modeling software is mandatory. BS in Civil Engineering or closely related field preferred. Experience permitting through SCDHEC-OCRM and/or licensure a plus.

Hussey Gay Bell has an opening for a Field Project Representative to join our Construction Department in our Savannah, GA office. The ideal candidate must be able to inspect various ongoing construction projects for quality, accuracy per contract documents and approved standards.

Typical Duties:

  • Performs routine construction observation services for water and sewer piping, pump stations, water/wastewater treatment plants, grading streets & sites, paving, storm drainage, HDD and concrete projects for the firm’s industrial, commercial, institutional and municipal type projects.
  • Serves as a liaison between client/owner and contractor.
  • Assists Project Managers in effectively administering construction contracts.
  • Seeks appropriate guidance in resolving various project related issues during all aspects of construction.
  • Prepares project related correspondence as appropriate.
  • Manages time effectively in order to meet project deadlines and client needs.
  • Attends and participates at meetings on behalf of the company with clients, contractors or resource agencies as appropriate.
  • Arranges and conducts job progress meetings, takes minutes and keeps organized records.
  • Maintains daily reports, as-builds/records and is completely familiar with plans and specifications for each project assigned.
  • Performs various types of field testing as required by supervisor for design or construction purposes.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and/or training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Ability to interpret design/construction documents, drawings, schedules, building codes, and construction means and methods.

Minimum five year experience working in the construction industry.
